This video is evidence as to why Memphis is one of the best stops on the ATP tour for tennis fans. It’s so intimate and very easy to get up-close and personal with the players.
While everyone else was on the grandstand court, I stepped out to see when the Ernests Gulbis/Juan Martin Del Potro match was scheduled to be on stadium court. As luck would have it, I happened upon Hewitt taking advantage of a chance to practice on stadium court before Gulbis and Del Potro came on. My photos from the 2009 Regions Morgan Keegan Championships can be found on this page.

Reed’s Need For Speed

Now I see why Vic wanted to get this little pup! FUN! Even when aerodynamically challenged by the e-collar, he’s still able to give Graeme a run for his money!

Vic decided that while I was out of town would be a good time to adopt this cute little fella. We got him from a no-kill rescue shelter here in Jackson called “ARF” (Animal Rescue Fund). Apparently, he was left behind at a hunting camp?! The vet claims that he is approximately one year old and in good health.
Graeme has been very excited about getting him (he had to wait a few days while the vet performed the “snip-snip” but he came home last night). I proposed that we name him “Rafa” (after that dog who stole Roger Federer’s #1 ranking! :) ) but then it occurred to me that “Jet” would be a great name for this little fella (seeing as how his coat is jet-black and “Jet” is Graeme’s favorite Paul McCartney song… not to mention the fact that “Jet” is short and compact in its “one-syllable-ness” and rolls off the tongue easily when being called or scolded!). Graeme was not having any of it however. When we asked what he wanted to name the pup he immediately said “Ely”, “Ely Foster”! In addition to the fact that the name “Ely” has obvious football undertones (neither of us are fans), we were also trying to dissuade him from naming his dog after one of his friends from school. But it remained “Ely” every time the pup was discussed. Finally, on the evening before we got the dog, Graeme was talking about some of his other friends at school when Vic and I suggested that he might want to consider some of the names of his other friends too. He thought that was a great idea and at that point decided that he would name the pup “Jace”. He stuck with “Jace” overnight and from there it went to “Reed”. We told him that once the dog came home with him he had to decide on a name and stick with it. So “Reed” it is!

Here’s the video footage that I shot during the Barry Leach Group sessions for Standards Of Living. Recorded at Terminal Recording Studio, Ridgeland, Mississippi, September 2006. The band was cut live with Adib adding his vocals after the fact.
